How the Friends Provide Support

1. Host the Annual Native Plant Sale in April each year.

2. Support programming and special events at the Indiana Dunes National Park such as Maple Sugar Time, Green Gary, Midsummer, West Beach Symphony Concert, Apples Festival, and Holiday Traditions in the Dunes.

3. Support programming and special events at the Indiana Dunes State Park such as Sand Sculpture Contest, Hummingbird Banding, Historical Voyageurs or Ouiatenon Brigade, Storytellers Festival, and “Howl”oween Event.

4. Support the school season environmental program known as “Frog in the Bog” at the Dunes Learning Center.

5. Sponsor guest speakers and musicians at both the Indiana Dunes National and State Parks.

6. Sponsor joint events at both the Indiana Dunes National and State Parks such as Birding Fest and Outdoor Adventure Festival.

7. Support Volunteer Appreciation events at both the Indiana Dunes National and State Parks.

8. Provide supplies for environmental programming at the Indiana Dunes National Park’s Douglas Center and the Indiana Dunes State Park.

9. Provide animal food for the birds, snakes, turtles, etc. at Indiana Dunes National Park’s Douglas Center and Indiana Dunes State Park’s Nature Center.

10. Supply infrastructure items such as microscopes, telescopes, police light bars, ATVs, portable speed bumps, AED/defibrillators, AV equipment, etc. for both the Indiana Dunes National and State Parks.

11. Support public programming at both the Indiana Dunes National and State Parks by the purchase of supplies, taxidermy and printing of flyers.

12. Provide financial support for the summer camps at the Indiana Dunes State Park and Dunes Learning Center.

13. Create and distribute the “Dunes Echo”, the Friends of Indiana Dunes membership newsletter, which keeps our membership apprised of upcoming events at the Indiana Dunes National Park, Indiana Dunes State Park and the Dunes Learning Center.

14. Offer Field Courses for their members and the general public.

The total yearly financial support from the Friends is $65,000 to $75,000, collectively, for the Indiana Dunes National Park, the Indiana Dunes State Park and the Dunes Learning Center.
