Visitor Center: 9:00 am–4:00 pm, Daily

Douglas Center: 9:00 am–4:00 pm, Daily

Lend a hand in our drop-in litter cleanup program. Simply check in at the Visitor Center to receive trash bags, then choose from one of our many beach areas or hiking trails to collect trash. Participants can earn a free, reusable water bottle for filling up their bags. Please leave trash at a trash can on the site you hiked.

Meet the naturalist at the Beach Pavilion for a peaceful evening hike up to the Bird Observation Platform. The moon won’t be full but well on its way! If weather doesn’t permit, the walk will be altered with same starting location. Stairs are necessary to reach Trail 3. The platform has a ramp.

Friday, October 24th

2:00pm - “Campground Rove” Be on the lookout for a park naturalist in the campground. They may have something interesting with them. Be sure to ask about our Halloween happenings!

6:30pm - “Trivia and S’mores!” Join us at the Campground Shelter for some fun Dunes trivia! Win and get a prize! We will also have a campfire and s’mores to kick off our Howl’oween!

Saturday, October 25th “HALLOWEEN FUN!”

10:00am – “Woods on Wheels!” Located in the Campground Parking Lot, Indiana Woods on Wheels is a traveling interactive exhibit that provides information about the Hoosier state’s most renewable resource, our forests. Visitors will feel as if they have been transported to the woods as soon as they enter.

1:00pm-2:00pm - “Pumpkin Decorating!” Bring the kids to the Nature Center’s fire ring for some pumpkin decorating fun! Free pumpkins are provided while supplies last, thanks to FRIENDS of Indiana Dunes!

12:00pm-3:00pm - “Hayrides” Rides start at the campground gate and will go to the beach and back- fun for all ages! Tickets available at the campground gate. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

3:30pm-5:30pm “Trick-or-Treating” Our annual tradition takes place this afternoon! Bring your ghouls and goblins for some trick-or-treating fun in the park’s campground.

3:30pm-5:30pm - “Campsite Decorating Contest” Judges will determine the spookiest, most creative, and funniest campsites. Campers and visitors can cast their vote for our People’s Choice Award by visiting the Friends of Indiana Dunes table, located near the campground gate, winners will be announced at 6:00pm following trick-or-treating from FRIENDS table. Prizes provided by FRIENDS of Indiana Dunes.

6:30pm - “Spine-Chilling Spider Hunt Night Hike” At the Nature Center you will discover fascinating facts about our 8-legged friends. Then go on a hunt in the dark to search for these amazing creatures.

Join the Midwest Rail Rangers on the South Shore Line and learn about the sights outside the window, including the south side of Chicago, the historic steel-making area of Northwest Indiana, and the Indiana Dunes National Park.

East Bound, Train # 503: Millennium Station, Chicago to South Bend Station (8:30 am–11:38 am)

West Bound, train # 506: South Bend Station to Millennium Station, Chicago (1:14 pm–2:27 pm)

The program is provided at no additional cost to passengers, however those riding must purchase a valid train ticket. Passengers can hop on, or off, at various locations along the route. Train schedules may change, check mysouthshoreline.com for updates.
