**Thursday January 1st, 2026** 10:00 a.m. – ANNUAL FIRST DAY HIKE SPECIAL EVENT! As part of a 50-state initiative, America's State Parks First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year with a rejuvenating healthy hike connecting with the outdoors. This year, at the Indiana Dunes State Park, we invite you to strap on your hiking boots to start the trek at the park’s City West Shelter. The route is a 2-mile moderate loop along the beach and Lake Michigan, to Trail 7 and back via the Campground. A campfire with treats sponsored by Friends of Indiana Dunes will welcome you at the end.
